About
Herpes nerve pain in the leg—also called post-herpetic neuralgia—can occur after a herpes zoster (shingles) outbreak or, in some cases, from HSV-2 complications. This pain results from nerve damage and is often described as burning, stabbing, or tingling. It may be constant or flare up intermittently and is typically localized along the path of the affected nerve. The pain can interfere with daily activities, sleep, and mobility. Treatment options for herpes nerve pain in leg include antiviral medication, nerve pain relievers like gabapentin or pregabalin, and topical creams. Early treatment of herpes outbreaks may reduce the risk of developing long-term nerve pain.
